Then, invite three friends to your house. When they arrive, tell them that you hid Easter eggs with 5 dollars inside in your backyard. When they look for them, put the eggs in the door, so when they return, they see them. But, surprise! There are chocolates inside them.
-Hard-Core: Read and do the same as in the committed way of celebration. But in hard-core, you must invite 15 people to your house.

Have a Happy Easter!

Toast Thursday Trouble Presents Today's Short Story

A Green Movement: A Short History of LETTUCE

One of the oldest known vegetables, lettuce is a member of the daisy and thistle family and became known as a water plant for its refreshing properties.

It dates back to the Ancient Greeks who believed it contained sleep inducing properties and so served it at the end of a meal. However, the dictatorial Emperor Domitian (81-96AD) brought it out at the beginning of his feasts so he could torture his guests by forcing them to stay awake in his presence!

The popularity of lettuce continued into Roman times, with people benefiting from its nutritional properties – in fact Emperor Caesar Augustus built a statue praising lettuce as he believed eating it had cured him of an illness! It was traditional for Romans to begin their banquets with lettuce to enhance the appetite and relax the alimentary canal.

Originating from the Mediterranean area, lettuce was first introduced into America by Christopher Columbus when he sailed ‘the ocean blue’ in 1492.

T-Bone Tuesday Team Presents Today's Short Story

A Green Movement: A Short History of GREEN GARLIC

Allium sativum, commonly known as garlic, is a species in the onion genus, Allium.
Its close relatives include the onion, shallot, leek, chive, and rakkyo. With a history of human use of over 7,000 years, garlic is native to central Asia, and has long been a staple in the Mediterranean region, as well as a frequent seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe. It was known to Ancient Egyptians, and has been used for both culinary and medicinal purposes.

According to Zohary and Hopf, “A difficulty in the identification of its wild progenitor is the sterility of the cultivars", though it is thought to be descended from the species Allium longicuspis, which grows wild in central and southwestern Asia.

Garlic is easy to grow and can be grown year-round in mild climates. While sexual propagation of garlic is indeed possible, nearly all of the garlic in cultivation is propagated asexually, by planting individual cloves in the ground.

Toast Thursday Trouble Presents Today's Short Story

A Green Movement: A Short History of SWEET ONION

The onion is a member of the pungent Allium genus of the lily family, which also includes garlic, leeks, shallots, scallions, andchives. Most commercially-grown sweet onions are of the common or seed (A. cepa) variety.

The word onion comes to us from the Latin unio (meaning large pearl), which in Middle English became unyon. The bustling city of Chicago was named for a variety of onion the Native American Indians called chicago (A. canadense).

The onion was considered as valuable as gold in the Middle Ages. It has long been a symbol of eternity due to its structural composition of layers within layers which form a sphere.

The onion has amazingly been the focus of some mighty strange legislation over the years. For example, in Nacogdoches, Texas, it's against the law for "young women" to indulge in any raw onions after 6 pm. It is doubtful this law has been enforced in quite some time.

Sweet onion varieties have been traced back to a packet of seeds from the Canary Islands which were shipped to South Texas in 1898.. The sweet onion crop was an instant success.

T-Bone Tuesday Team Presents Today's Short Story

A Green Movement: A Short History of SPINACH

Spinach comes from a central and southwestern Asian gene center where it may have originated from Spinacia tetranda, which is still gathered as a wild edible green in Anatolia. Spinach was unknown to the ancient Mediterranean world.

The diffusion of spinach into the Mediterranean was almost certainly the result of Arab ingenuity. Spinach, which does not grow well in hot weather, was successfully cultivated in the hot and arid Mediterranean climate by Arab agronomists through the use of sophisticated irrigation techniques probably as early as the eighth century A.D.

The first references to spinach are from Sasanian Persia (about 226-640 A.D.) and we know that in 647 it was taken from Nepal to China where it was, and still is, known as the "Persian green." The first written evidence of spinach in the Mediterranean are in three tenth-century works, the medical work by al-Razi (known as Rhazes in the West) and in two agricultural treatises, one by Ibn Wahshiya and the other by Qustus al-Rumi. Spinach became a popular vegetable in the Arab Mediterranean and arrived in Spain by the latter part of the twelfth century where the great Arab agronomist Ibn.

Fondue Friday Farm Presents Today's Recipe

Chocolate-covered Strawberries
Serves 5 to 6

INGREDIENTS

-6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
-3 ounces white chocolate, chopped
-1 pound strawberries with stems (about 20), washed and dried very well

METHOD

Put the semisweet and white chocolates into 2 separate heatproof medium bowls. Fill 2 medium saucepans with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. (Alternatively, melt the chocolates in a microwave at half power, for 1 minute, stir and then heat for another minute or until melted.)

Once the chocolates are melted and smooth, remove from the heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries.

Toast Thursday Trouble Presents Today's Short Story

A Green Movement: A Short History of ASPARAGUS

A member of the lily family, asparagus, (Asparagus officinalis), comes from the Greek word asparagos, which first appears in English print around 1000 A.D. It cannot be definitively tracked to any one specific area of origin, although it is known to be native to the eastern Mediterranean and Asia Minor areas.

As early as 200 BC, Cato gave excellent growing instructions for asparagus. The ancient Egyptians cultivated it, and Romans, from Pliny to Julius Caesar to Augustus, prized the wild variety.
"As quick as cooking asparagus" was an old Roman saying meaning something accomplished rapidly.

Herbalist John Girard mentioned wild asparagus in the 16th century, and it is mentioned as far back as the 17th century in French cookbooks.

The asparagus growing beds in Northern Italy were famous during the Renaissance period. These graceful spears have always been a sign of elegance, and in times past, were a delicacy only the wealthy could afford. Roman emperors were so fond of asparagus, that they kept a special asparagus fleet for the purpose of fetching it.
